I had a blast celebrating Tu B’Shevat this week!  Tuesday night, we were invited to a seder at the Haifa University.  It was sponsored by the Haifa Young Adults Center (who I volunteers for), the University of Haifa International School, and the Jewish Agency for Israel. The seder consisted of some presentations and discussions about Tu B’shevat and one of my roommates even read the blessing for the first cup of wine!  After the wine was drunk and the dried fruit eaten, we pushed the tables back and Israeli danced the rest of the night.  It was really fun and it was great to meet some of the other international kids in Haifa!  The next morning, we together traveled to the beach, Hof Ha’carmel for another Tu B’shevat celebration.  There were lots of elementary school children there, as well as older students, soldiers, new immigrants, and other volunteers.  Many of the city’s officials spoke (in Hebrew of course) and some of the school children performed songs.  At the conclusion, each person got to plant a tree!  It was such a great experience and we were lucky to have the opportunity to celebrate Tu B’shevat the “Israeli” way.
