I just want to say a big thank you to all the folks over at PJ Library and a few words about what the books have meant for our family. I am a non-Jew who married a man who himself has only one Jewish parent. Nonetheless, we decided that while we would respect and observe traditions from both religions, we wanted our two children to be Jewish and feel Jewish.

The PJ Library has been invaluable in helping us accomplish this goal. When Jewish holidays roll around, neither my husband nor I have a depth of knowledge about the how and why. Sure, we can light a menorah and attend a seder, but what is Sukkot and what do people do with an etrog? What is an age-appropriate way to talk about Yom Kippur? Again and again, it was the PJ Library books to which I turned to answer my questions and the questions of my children. I’m sure they are a wonderful treat and resource for all families, but I think especially so for families of mixed marriages. The books have been so enjoyable and useful to me that I keep them in a separate basket of their own so that I may easily search and find just the right book for the upcoming holiday or life moment.

The PJ Library is administered in Boston by the JCC. For more information, visit jccgb.org/pjlibrary.

Thank you again for providing such a wonderful program, and Happy Chanukah!
