The Chabad Center of Lexington was filled with joy and celebration on Sunday, May 6, as a new Torah was completed, dressed in its new finery and danced to the Aron Kodesh. The Torah was generously donated to the Center by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous to honor Vicky Benedek, who has been the director of the Jewish Preschool of Lexington (JPL) for more than 25 years. Alumni going back to the beginning of the preschool were on hand to celebrate with Vicky, as were her family, staff, other early childhood educators and members of the Chabad community. The celebration was hosted by Rabbi and Mrs. Alti Bukiet.

A highlight of the celebration was walking through the lobby of the Center, which was filled with photographs of JPL children, parents and teachers. Many former students have now brought their own children to the preschool. Also available to those in attendance was the new book “Torah Times with Morah Vicky,” which was commissioned especially for this event and contains age-appropriate artwork and parsha summaries for young children. “Torah Times” was dedicated to Vicky Benedek in recognition of her many years of creating an environment in which children and their families grow and learn in all aspects of early childhood education, grounded in a deep love for the Jewish holidays, lifecycle events and Jewish traditions.

JPL operates year-round and offers full-day and early-start options for children ages 16 months through pre-K. JPL is now accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year. Please call Vicky Benedek at 781-863-7211 for more information or to schedule a tour of the school.
