When the devastating wildfires broke out in the Carmel Forest during Chanukah this past December, the entire Boston community rallied to help our friends and family in Haifa. Local college students wanted to contribute as well, and a group of 20 students from Boston University, UMass Amherst, Harvard, Suffolk, Wheaton and Wesleyan spent their Spring Break volunteering in Haifa followed by three days in Jerusalem.

The trip was fully sponsored by Combined Jewish Philanthropies and relief funding raised with help from the Boston-Haifa Connection after the fires.

Students put a fresh coat of paint on an elementary school serving mainly Ethiopian-Israelis, removed damaged trees from the Yemin Orde youth center, and built a community garden at Bat Galim through creation of walking paths, mosaic benches, planting, and cement-mixing.

The video below provides an in-depth look at the work and dedication these students contributed during their Spring Break…kol hakavod!
