Organized by Weston High School juniors Olivia Swartz, Becca Abrams and Lily Nielsen, the Backpack Run was held on May 11 and took participants on a 5K route through Weston.

Runners asked friends, family and businesses to sponsor their participation, and JFS is thrilled to report that the second Backpack Run was a tremendous success, with 32 runners participating!

The goal of the Backpack Run was to raise money for the JFS Donate a Backpack event, an initiative of the JFS Reducing Achievement Gaps program, which provides school supplies to students in need. This annual event is held in August before the start of school and offers an opportunity for families and local organizations to help low-income students start the year off right. The funds raised are for supplies to fill the over 300 backpacks that will be packed during this event in August.

This year’s backpack event will be held at two locations, first on Monday, Aug. 26, at the Framingham Public Library, and then on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Wellesley Free Public Library. Participants typically register to attend one of these events. Click here to learn more about this year’s backpack event.

Thanks again to Olivia, Becca, Lily and the team for their hard work and for helping JFS stand up for students left behind!
