What an fabulous start to the Festival. Thje Pincus & The Pig family concert was a fun-filled afternoon of music and activity. Thanks to the Shirim Klezmer Orchestra and Fishel Bresler for an enchanting afternoon for all.

And “The Cloth From Which We Are Cut” concert by A Bessere Velt, the Boston Workmen’s Circle Yiddish Chorus was an outstanding success. A full house at Temple Israel witnessed a moving concert commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company Fire–a tragic event that changed labor history in America and had a strong impact on the Jewish community. This stunning original production featured projected photos from the time, actors in costume who spoke the words of eyemitnesses and historical figues, and emotionally charged music from the chorus. Congrats to A Bessere Velt and director Lisa Gallatin (along with BJMF Board member Hankus Netsky who accompanied them and our friend Cantor Roy Einhorn of Temple Israel). The audience cried and cheered and left the hall buzzing.

Today is a quiet day for the festival, but it starts again tomorrow night with a nearly sold out Yasmin Levy concert.

And don’t forget Thursday night, March 10th–the Yemen Blues concert at the Somerville Theater! See the most exciting new world music group on the planet, featuring Ravid Kahalani, former lead singer for the amazing Idan Raichel Project, bring an outstanding array of musicians to the stage. They have been selling out everywhere on this first North American tour–and with good reason. Get your tickets now!
