The seven sacred staples in ancient Israel’s kitchen—barley, dates, figs, grapes, olives, pomegranates and wheat—are celebrated and consumed on Judaism’s harvest holidays: Tu BiShvat, Shavuot and Sukkot. Lucky for everyone, each of the seven foods is delicious, quite versatile and can be prepared myriad ways. Delectability, however, is not why they’re highlighted; they’re symbolic of various aspects of the Jewish story, in the religion’s true fashion—for example, the “land of milk and honey” refers to date honey. They’re also connected with seven sefirot—emanations or divine attributes—in Kabbalah.

Take our quiz below to find out which of the seven species you’re most like, as interpreted through a mixture of culinary experience and Kabbalah research (thank you, Gal Einai and My Jewish Learning).
