The music had not yet started thumping.  Faces passed by.  And then there was the woman with the warm smile.  Elisha.  My Jewish Community Hero.

It was early January, and I reluctantly joined a friend to a CJP social event, A Novel Affair.  I had never before thought twice about the Boston Jewish Community.  And then there was the woman with the warm smile.  Elisha. Nine months later, I have actively participated in a YLD LEADS program, been to Israel (mission) for the first time, joined Kadimah, and belong to a new loving community.

Her resume speaks volumes, as do most who have been nominated as a Jewish Community Hero:  over 3 years serving her CJP and her community within YLD, Israel mission leader, event coordinator (Jewbilee), educator.

But she reaches Hero status for one huge reason…she inspires.  She inspires through example.  She inspires through her words.  She inspires through compassion.  And she inspires [best] through her food [http://elishasdoubleportion.blogspot.com/  check it out].

She has expanded that first warm smile, with warm homemade challahs made as she opens her house to the community for shabbat dinner, warm memories as she shares in Jewish exploration in Israel, and warm embraces as she engages one and all in the true sense of community.

I voted Elisha Gechter as my Jewish Community Hero.   So should you.   Please, vote now.  Because no one deserves it more.    https://www.jewishcommunityheroes.org/nominees/profile/elisha-gechter/
