GBJCL volunteer Lorraine Nelson at 4 years old outside her school in IndiaSince I joined the GBJCL staff in August, I have been consistently impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers. In our new online registration form at the beginning of this year, we asked their reasons for tutoring. As we reflect on the past year, I want to share some of those responses.

Many of our volunteers expressed commitment to improving the quality of life for children in the program as an important motivation to serve. As Lorraine Nelson from the Temple Emanuel team wrote, “Hopefully it will give them (the students) the edge they need to successfully continue their schooling, and move on to higher education.” Tutors help motivate children, give them an extra boost of confidence, and support their studies.
