We know that offering a wide range of adult-learning opportunities means that more people are connected to Jewish life, learning and community—and then Judaism is enhanced in this generation and in future generations. That’s why we are so proud of our adult-learning lineup!

Offered in partnership between CJP and Hebrew College:

Me’ah Classic: A two-year journey comprising 100 hours of class time, through the narrative of the Jewish people from ancient times to the present. Participants delve into core texts and the history of four eras—biblical, rabbinic, medieval and modern—to build a foundation of knowledge and greater meaning.

Me’ah Select: A 10-week, in-depth exploration of a specific theme, text, personality or slice of Jewish history. Participants gain a variety of perspectives on the topic area and an understanding of its significance in the past and its meaning for contemporary Jewish life. Open to all, from Me’ah grads to those new to Jewish learning.

Open Circle Jewish Learning: Open Circles are micro-communities of individuals seeking rich and accessible Jewish learning experiences facilitated by excellent educators. Open to adults of all ages and backgrounds, groups are built around particular interests—topics may be requested—or are pre-organized on topics including “Mindful Living,” “People of the Book” and “Jewish Food for Thought.”

Parenting Through a Jewish Lens: Energetic and memorable conversations that lead to greater understanding of your vital role as parent. Explore core values that can strengthen your family. Learn with expert instructors who understand your concerns as a parent. Enjoy rich conversations with other parents on topics that matter. We also offer Parenting Your Tween Through a Jewish Lens and Parenting Your Teen Through a Jewish Lens.

Eser – Young Adult Learning Series: Eser is 10 home-based sessions exploring contemporary issues illuminated by Jewish texts, thoughts and wisdom. Together we’ll discuss sticky situations that challenge our ability to do the right thing and explore Jewish and contemporary ideas on issues including Jewish responsibility for other communities, free speech vs. offensive speech, the environment, commerce and relationships. Eser participants are young adults in their 20s and 30s from all backgrounds.

Other offerings supported by CJP:

Genesis Forum: Lunchtime learning offered by CJP at Temple Israel of Boston, Temple Shalom in Newton and Hebrew College in Newton. This year’s topics are: Courageous Callings: Listening and Leadership, The Dimensions of Jewish Civic Duty and E Pluribus Unum: Jewish Particularism and American Pluralism. Each section has four sessions and is taught by a scholar.

Tzion: Tzion is a fascinating course that gives participants a sound knowledge of Zionism and the State of Israel. Led by an experienced instructor and taking place over the course of two years, Tzion connects adults to Israel and its people through a discussion-based, interactive classroom. An optional study tour of Israel is offered at the end of the second year.

iEngage: In partnership with local synagogues and the Shalom Hartman Institute, iEngage is creating a new narrative regarding the significance of Israel for Jewish life. The aspiration is to build a new covenant between Israel and world Jewry, elevating the existing discourse from crisis-based to one rooted in Jewish values and ideas.

Israel Mini-Courses with Gann Academy: A three-session mini-course on “Everything You Wanted to Know About Israel But Were Afraid to Ask,” taught by Gann Academy faculty members in peoples’ homes.

Courses at Mayyim Hayyim: A five-session seminar called “Beyond the Huppah” for engaged and recently married couples (0-5 years) that provides tools to solidify a strong partnership and explore different ways of creating a Jewish home. Sessions cover topics such as couplehood, decision-making and money, Jewish ritual, sexuality and building a Jewish family.

Courses at Reform Jewish Outreach Boston: RJOB offers classes and workshops for interfaith couples and individuals exploring Judaism and the Jewish community. Classes are taught by a dynamic team of rabbis, cantors and educators from the Greater Boston Jewish community.

Courses at the Jewish Discovery Institute: JDI hosts a variety of programs to help people explore the intricacies of interfaith relationships, including, for those interested, a meaningful conversion program.

With all of these offerings, we hope you will find the one that’s right for you!
