For many, gospel is linked to the Christian church. But it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way; Jews can enjoy gospel music, too, even on their Sabbath. On Friday, June 26th at 7:15 PM, Ahavath Torah Congregation (ATC) will hold a special Gospel Kabbalat Shabbat featuring The Boston Community Choir. (BCC) singing gospel-influenced Jewish melodies. A full Shabbat dinner will be served (by paid reservations only) beginning at 6:00 PM. The Gospel Kabbalat Shabbat service is free and open to all. Following the service, the congregation is invited to share in an Oneg Shabbat (refreshments). Ahavath Torah Congregation is located at 1179 Central Street in Stoughton.

The Boston Community Choir (BCC) is an all-volunteer, multicultural, intergenerational, multi-denominational group of singers from many church, community and university choirs througout the Greater Boston area. The Choir is highly acclaimed and has performed with well-known international recording artists such as Patti LaBelle and the Boston Pops, and has been a staple at Symphony Hall’s Gospel Night. Choir members and audiences are often left in a state of total and exhausted joy due to the exuberance of its approach to holiness and music and the BCC’s appeal to a broader-than-traditional audience. The BCC will lead the ATC community in a service featuring gospel influenced Jewish melodies in a creative Kabbalat Shabbat to welcome the Sabbath.

Shabbat dinner reservations are now being accepted.
