Join us for the annual Jewish Poetry Festival at Temple Sinai, coordinated by Deborah Leipziger and moderated by Larry Lowenthal. This year’s festival features Joy Ladin, a widely published poet and essayist, literary scholar, and nationally known speaker on transgender issues who will be joining us virtually.

Refreshments will be served. No registration needed to attend in-person (click “register” for the Zoom link to join virtually).

Joy Ladin is the author of 12 books, including, most recently, “Shekhinah Speaks,” a luminous collection of poems that gives voice to the feminine divine. From 2003 to 2021, she held the David and Ruth Gottesman Chair in English at Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University; her gender transition and return to teaching in 2008 made her the first openly transgender employee of an Orthodox Jewish institution. Joy has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts writing fellowship, a Fulbright scholarship, an American Council of Learned Societies Research Fellowship and two Hadassah Brandeis Institute Research fellowships, among other honors. Joy holds a Ph.D. in American literature from Princeton University, where she was awarded the Porter Ogden Jacobus Fellowship as top graduate student in the humanities, an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst), and a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College.

We are grateful to CJP for their sponsorship of the New England Jewish Poetry Festival and to Keshet for co-sponsoring this event with us.
