Veteran journalist Aaron Leibel reads from his acclaimed new memoir, “Figs and Alligators: An American Immigrant’s Life in Israel in the 1970s and 1980s.” Kirkus Reviews called the book “a remarkable introduction to a complex country.”
A Baltimore native, Leibel received a Ph.D. in government and politics from the University of Maryland. He and his family made aliyah, living in Israel for 16 years. Leibel lived on a kibbutz for four years and worked as an editor and writer for The Jerusalem Post and Newsview, the Israeli news magazine. From 1997 to 2011 he was arts and copy editor at Washington Jewish Week and has served as the publication’s copy chief for the past three years.
