The Talmud tells us that whoever enters the month of Adar increases in simcha, in happiness. Adar’s central holiday, Purim, instructs us to party until we don’t know the difference between the story’s hero and villain.
In fact, the entire Purim story is one of v’nahafoch hu – everything we thought we knew, flipped on its head. While upheavals and uncertainties tend to elicit anxiety, the holiday of Purim and the month of Adar teach us to embrace the unknown with joy, delight, and wonder.
But orienting in this way is easier said than done. That’s why we’re taking a full day to meditate on it! Through Jewish spiritual practice, silent meditation, and movement, we’ll turn these teachings into embodied knowing – ways of being we can actually integrate back into our lives.
Curious? Join us. This silent retreat is open to all, from advanced meditators to complete beginners.
What will this retreat look like?
Friday: We’ll gather for a mindfulness-based Kabbalat Shabbat evening service with the broader Eitz Chayim community, followed by an oneg and time to get to know each other before entering retreat silence.
Saturday: The retreat begins in earnest at 10 a.m. as we drop into silence and settle into a rhythm of sitting meditation, walking meditation, teachings, and chanting. Shabbat lunch will be provided, as well as snacks and coffee and tea throughout the day. After Havdalah, the ritual that closes Shabbat, we’ll complete our journey from stillness to celebration with an ecstatic 5Rhythms dance and movement practice led by certified 5Rhythms teacher Joel Stanley.
