The Psalmist writes, “To you (Eilekha), God, I will call out,” but how do we as contemporary Jews reach toward the divine “You”? For generations, Jews have turned to Tehillim (the Book of Psalms) as a resource in times when we encounter our own human limitations. The poetry in this book has been a roadmap for our ancestors to express joy, gratitude, anger and fear and to share those emotions with the Divine Source of Life when they didn’t know what else to do.
Join Hebrew College rabbinic intern Sam Tygiel in this ongoing weekly drop-in class. Each week, we’ll look at one Psalm with the aim of transforming it into an emotional focal point to connect with our deeper selves. We’ll spend some time discussing the text of the psalm itself and then experiment with different experiential tools—such as music, writing and meditation—to see if we can find personal, spiritual openings in these ancient texts.
Cost: $5-$10 per-class donation; free for Asiyah members
This drop-in class meets every Monday through March. Join one class or join them all! We’ll send you the Zoom link once you register.
