Join us as we take the ferry from Long Wharf to the Boston Harbor Islands, with options for picnicking, swimming, hiking and more!

We’ll meet in Central Square (corner of Mass Ave and Western Ave) at 10:00am to take the T to Long Wharf for the 11:15am ferry. Please be early — we will enter the T at 10:10am regardless of who is not yet there! (You can also meet us directly at Long Wharf at 10:40am — Aquarium stop on the Blue Line.) Fare for the harbor ferry is $15 per adult (roundtrip). Please click here to buy your ticket online in advance, they tend to sell out!

First stop will be Georges Island at 11:40am for a picnic while watching Vintage Baseball- our national pass time as enjoyed in the 1860s! We’ll stay on Georges Island for a little while before continuing on. Seven miles from downtown Boston, Georges Island contains a large dock, picnic grounds, open fields, paved walkways, a parade ground and a gravel beach. Guided tours of historic Fort Warren are offered.

Next we’ll catch the inter-island ferry to Spectacle Island (at 1:00 or 2:00pm, depending on how much fun we’re having on Georges Island). Spectacle Island (105 acres) features a marina, visitor center, cafe (open 11:00am-5:30pm), a life-guarded swimming beach, and five miles of walking trails that lead to the crest of a 157 foot-high hill, offering panoramic views of the harbor and the city.

We’ll take the 4:00pm ferry back to Boston, returning to Long Wharf at 4:30pm for the T ride home.

Recommended things to bring: adequate water, sack lunch, snacks, sunscreen, towel, outdoor toys, and — depending on your choice of activities — appropriate swimwear and/or hiking shoes. This will be a whether dependent event so stay tuned for weather updates motzei Shabbat.
