For centuries, the goal of design and architecture was to create physical and sacred locations for the faithful. Now, religious or “faithful” designers are outwardly and publicly few and far between.

Faith in Design will gather graduate students, academics and practitioners together to discuss how religion and design can coexist. How can we bridge the divide between our (secular) design lives and our religious lives?

This event is hosted by Jewish Students in Design and GSD Christian Fellowship, two student groups at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Students and practitioners of any faith involved in any of the design professions (including architecture, landscape architecture, planning, etc.) are welcome.

Schedule:

  • 9:30-10: Registration and coffee
  • 10-12: Panel 1: Can Religion and Design Coexist?
  • 12-1: Lunch (included in registration fee)
  • 1-3: Panel 2: Practicing Faith, Practicing Architecture
  • 3:15-5:15: Panel 3: Building a Compassionate Environment
  • 5:30: Happy hour
