Tu B’Shevat marks the season in which the earliest-blooming trees in the land of Israel emerge from their winter sleep and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. It is celebrated by eating some of the special fruits of the region, including grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates. It is also recognized as an environmental awareness day, with trees often planted in recognition of our role as stewards of the earth.
