“A Father’s Kaddish” by Jennifer Kaplan (Promotional still)

A week after his son’s death, Steve Branfman, a potter and teacher, went to his studio and made Japanese-style tea bowls. He did the same each day for a year, performing his own personal Kaddish. After nine years, Steve fired the 365 bowls and exhibited them. A potent and moving film about the universality of loss, mourning and rebuilding a life, told through the unique experience of art.

Following the screening of the film (30 minutes), join Steven Branfman and director/producer Jen Kaplan for a live Q&A.

The U.S. premiere of this film took place at the recent Boston Jewish Film Festival 2020.

This program is sponsored by the Temple Emanuel Death Café initiative.
