Four times a year, Jews of Ashkenazi descent gather in communal witness of grief during a brief service called Yizkor. Join Asiyah as we renew that tradition this Shavuot to include not only our grief for people, but also the generalized sense of loss we have been feeling during the onset of the COVID-19 era.
You’re invited to create a collage—or simply bring photos or mementos—of people, places and lives led to share onscreen. Everyone will have the opportunity to share one of the things they’re grieving, even as you show (via the magic of shared screen) the bigger picture.
Led by Asiyah’s Rabbi David Curiel, with collaboration from Kohenet (Hebrew priestess) Maryam Rhys, we’ll begin with a brief Shabbat and Yom Tov service, then have ample time for sharing and witnessing within the sacred container of Yizkor. Together, we’ll tap into the deep wisdom of our spiritual heritage to transform our collective grief into communal support and love.
