The Sabbatical Year: Reviving an ancient idea for
Justice and Equality Today.

Our ancestors designated every 7 years a sabbatical year, or shmita, meaning “release,” in order to promote a just, equitable and healthy society.

Through text study and discussion we’ll explore the deeper meanings of “release” in our busy lives, and consider how this ancient institution is being revived to bring more justice, equality and health to our planet and our society.

Rabbi Natan Margalit, Ph.D.
