“Yovel: The Jubilee Year and Its Lessons for Our Day,” an adult education class taught by Rabbi Wasserman.

This year marks the fiftieth year since 1967 and the Six-Day War, which gave Israel control of all of Jerusalem and of the West Bank and Gaza. This is a significant anniversary and a fraught one. Even the question of what to call this year is controversial. For some of us, it is a celebration of fifty years since the reunification of Jerusalem and of Jewish sovereignty over our holiest sites. For some of us, it is a painful commemoration of fifty years of military occupation.

Fifty years is an evocative number in the Jewish tradition. We will explore the Jewish concept of yovel, the biblical cycle of fifty years, meant to shape our relationship to the land and people around us.

This course will run on three Tuesday evenings, March 21, 28, third date TBA: 7:15 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
