As an obstetrician and gynecologist, I have performed hundreds of hospital-based circumcisions before becoming certified as a Mohelet (a female Mohel) by the Berit Mila Board of Reform Judaism of the Hebrew Union College to perform infant circumcision and ritual baby naming services. My interest in becoming a Mohelet began when my oldest daughter was born, and a female OB/GYN performed her baby naming ceremony. I thought this was a wonderful way to connect with the Jewish community and share my medical training while helping families fulfill the mitzvah of Berit Mila. I am honored to have recently been Chairperson-elect of the National Organization of American Mohelim.
