Friends and supporters of Beth Israel Senior Citizens Housing Inc. (BISCHI) gathered on Tuesday, April 22, to dedicate a Magen David Adom (MDA) Life Support Ambulance that will help save thousands of lives in Israel.

Based in Malden, BISCHI is a private foundation that helps organizations and supports food pantries, homeless shelters, religious organizations, and other causes.

The ambulance dedication ceremony took place at Temple Emunah in Lexington and was followed by a celebratory dinner at a local restaurant. After the event, the newly dedicated vehicle was shipped to Israel and put into service saving lives.

This marks the fourth ambulance donated by BISCHI to MDA over the past 10 years. A previous ambulance was dedicated several weeks after the tragic events of Oct. 7, 2023, one of several rescue vehicles that was rushed to Israel at that time on special cargo flights. Prior to that, the organization funded two ambulances that are now in service in Rehovot and Tamra. There are plans to donate yet another ambulance to MDA in 2026.

“BISCHI is proud to celebrate the donation of a fourth Life Support Ambulance to the people of Israel,” said Larry Weiner, president of the BISCHI board. “We are grateful that we are able to provide an additional fully equipped Magen David Adom ambulance, ensuring that more precious lives can be saved in Israel.”

As Israel’s national emergency medical service, blood services, and disaster relief organization, MDA relies on the donation of around 100 ambulances every year to fulfill its lifesaving mission. MDA is the only organization mandated by the Israeli government to serve this role, but is not a government agency, so it primarily relies on donors for its funding.

“We are grateful and humbled by this gift from Beth Israel Senior Citizens Housing Inc.,” said Monique Martin, director of the American Friends of Magen David Adom’s New England Region. “BISCHI’s ongoing generosity has already touched the lives of many Israelis. With this new gift, even more patients will be healed and more lives saved.”
