Shavuot, the Jewish celebration of all things dairy, is here. And this means one thing: cheesecake! Here are Boston’s best versions. Please note: These are not kosher, but they are delicious.
Bova’s Bakery
A North End original, favored by locals: This 100-year-old institution gets our vote for flavor selection: chocolate chip, strawberry, blueberry and more.
Comfort Kitchen
This Dorchester hot spot has been raking in the accolades lately, from a rave Boston Globe review to a James Beard Foundation best new restaurant nomination. The menu traces the African diaspora; the vibe is light and convivial. And the Basque cheesecake? Some of the best in the city.
The Fox Den
This cozy Woburn brew pub, known for excellent pierogis, also offers New York-style cheesecake by the slice. This season’s selection? Mandarin marmalade with a brown sugar crust.
Korean Momma
This below-the-radar pop-up Instagram favorite specializes in ultra-creamy, caramelized cheesecakes in wild flavors, like mango lassi and stinky durian (plus tamer types like dulce de leche). Order for pickup at Cambridge’s Shojo and Yume Wo Katare.
Lyndell’s Bakery
This old-school bakery nestled in Somerville’s Ball Square is known for impossibly fresh cannoli, muffins and cheesecake, served from across a glass counter. There’s no frills here, but the colorful atmosphere—and the freshness—is unbeatable.
Tatte Bakery & Café
Yes, it’s a chain, but they do make a lovely cheesecake cup: blueberry-blackberry, raspberry, strawberry and a special Israeli cheese topped with a buttery crumbled crust, sized for smaller appetites.
Twist Bakery
This cheery gluten- and peanut-free bakery with locations in Burlington and Millis often makes a mean white chocolate cheesecake, served in adorable personal portions.
