The last few months in Dnipro, Ukraine, have been extremely difficult. Air raid sirens, multiple deadly ballistic missile and drone attacks and reports of people wounded and killed have become part of daily life. Yet even in such times, Jewish life does not stop.
On Tuesday, right in the midst of a massive and devastating attack across Ukraine, the Jewish community of Dnipro celebrated a truly remarkable celebration. After 16 years together and raising three children, Yosef and Avital Leah Nikitenko completed their journey of conversion to Judaism, and finally stood under the chuppah to build their home as a Jewish family.
Despite the war and all the challenges facing our country, more than 400 Jews came together to celebrate. Rabbis and guests traveled from communities across Ukraine to share in their joy, filling the hall with an atmosphere of warmth, unity and genuine happiness.
This wedding was much more than a personal milestone. It was a living reminder that the Jewish people continue to grow, build and choose life. Seeing hundreds of Jews dancing together in Dnipro, celebrating a family that embraced Judaism with such dedication and sincerity, was a powerful expression of hope and faith in the future.
