B’nai Torah MetroWest is delighted to announce that Rabbi Emily Mathis will be joined by celebrated singer-songwriter Julie Silver again this year, accompanied by musician Eric Eid-Reiner, along with Sandy Pochapin and Leslee Olender, members of the B’nai Torah MetroWest choir.
Julie Silver is one of contemporary Jewish music’s most beloved performers, captivating audiences worldwide for over 40 years with her beautiful compositions, liturgical settings, and dynamic presence. “I try to enhance the way people experience Judaism by adding my own take on our sacred texts,” Silver explains.
Though based in Southern California, Julie’s roots run deep in New England—she was raised in Newton and began leading song sessions throughout the Reform movement as a teenager. A Clark University graduate, she’s become one of the country’s most sought-after song leaders. In summer 2011, this lifelong Red Sox fan fulfilled a dream by singing the National Anthem before 38,000 fans at Fenway Park.
Without major label backing, Julie has sold over 120,000 CDs, with her songs becoming “standards” woven into American Jewish worship, camps, and schools. Her achievements include:
- Notes from Montana (2002) featuring a duet with Academy Award winner Helen Hunt
- For Love to Grow (2005), honored as a Parents’ Choice Blue Ribbon work
- It’s Chanukah Time (2007), the first Jewish album to reach Billboard charts (peaking at #5)
- Reunion (2009) and Anniversary (2014), celebrating 25 years of contemporary Jewish music
Beyond music, Julie is a published author whose essay “From Exile to Redemption” appears in the anthology Dancing at the Shame Prom (2012). In 2016, ARZA honored her with a lifetime achievement award for supporting pluralism, peace, and progressive actions in Israel.
We look forward to this extraordinary musical addition to our High Holy Days celebration again this year and welcome the community to join us!
