Seven years ago ROFEH International developed a new program, the Chanukah/Holiday Toy Drive. This initiative was designed with one goal in mind: to help put a smile on a sick child. With the help and cooperation of a handful of caring students from Maimonides School, along with ROFEH volunteer Lea Matz, we collected about 50 new toys and delivered them to Boston Children’s Hospital during the week of Chanukah.

Happily, the hospital leadership was extremely appreciative and thankful not only for the toys but for the effort and thought process that went into the program.

Since then, the toy drive has grown each year. Last year, over 1,000 new toys were delivered between Boston Children’s Hospital, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children. This year we are adding The Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, bringing the Jewish community’s efforts to four major hospitals.

Due to the caring and generosity of hundreds of individuals and over 25 Jewish institutions, aptly referred to as ROFEH Partners, the ROFEH Chanukah/Holiday Toy Drive is now recognized as the go-to toy drive the hospitals depend on each year to help put smiles on so many children who are receiving complex and most often life-saving medical care during the holidays and throughout the year.

Here are three ways you can support the toy drive:

1. Drop off unwrapped new toys to the decorated collection box placed at the location of one of our partner schools or organizations. Call 617-566-1900 for a list of partners.

2. Write a check made payable to ROFEH/Mike Hirsh. We will go shopping for you and purchase toys in the amount of the check. A copy of the original receipt will be sent as proof of purchase. Add “ROFEH Toy Drive” in the subject line. Send to: ROFEH, 1710 Beacon St., Brookline 02445.

3. Purchase on Amazon from an already made list of preferred toys at the ROFEH Chanukah/Holiday Toy Drive page. Items automatically ship to ROFEH in Brookline. Find the wish list here.

The last day to donate toys is Dec. 25.

Thank you for participating!

If you’re interested in going to one of the hospitals to join a festive Chanukah celebration with ROFEH and the hospital staff, please email mhirsh@rofehint.org.
