Join us to learn more about the current situation in Laos and hear about what one man is doing to fulfill his mitzvah.

So, what’s a good Jewish boy from the North Shore, who 40 years ago was a student at our own Hillel School, doing in Southeast Asia? In short, fulfilling a mitzvah of living from the heart and serving others with unconditional love through education.

Michael Sebastian founded the S.M.I.L.E. Project (Supporting Multitudes In Life & Education) in 2008 and has been living in Laos for almost 10 years running this project by himself. The mission of his nonprofit is to offer free education, food, housing and health care assistance to impoverished, abandoned, orphaned and underprivileged youth in an effort to break the cycle of poverty and create economic mobility for students, their families and whole communities.
