Sarah Hurwitz, former speechwriter for Michelle Obama, will be speaking on “A White House Speechwriter’s Jewish Journey” at the Phillips Academy in Andover.

Ms. Hurwitz attended Harvard University and Harvard Law School, and began her career as a speechwriter for Al Gore. She was a speechwriter for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign and deputy chief speechwriter for the presidential campaigns of Senator John Kerry and General Wesley Clark.

Ms. Hurwitz wrote Hillary Clinton’s 2008 concession speech, which included Clinton’s remarks about “18 million cracks” in the “highest, hardest glass ceiling.” She was offered a job as a member of Obama’s presidential campaign team two days after Clinton delivered the speech. Her first assignment for Michelle Obama was at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
