Learn to sing some of our favorite off-the-beaten-path Yiddish songs in harmony! In this workshop, seasoned singers and interpreters of Yiddish song Adah Hetko and Lysander Jaffe will teach a selection of songs from their repertoire. Explore the power of Yiddish song through poetry, music, cultural context, and above all singing! No experience with Yiddish or singing necessary. Lyrics will be provided in Yiddish, transliteration and translation.
Hetko and Jaffe are the leaders of Boston-based Yiddish song ensemble Levyosn. Levyosn (“leviathan” in Ashkenazi Hebrew) is inspired by the mythical sea monster of Jewish legend, traveling the world in search of songs, krill, and dreams. Founded in 2021, the ensemble has made its mark on the international klezmer scene through thoughtful arrangements of original and traditional Yiddish songs, blending American and Ashkenazi influences with rich vocal harmonies. They released their second album, “Levyosn’s Dream,” through Borscht Beat in June 2026.
