After Majid Shokor left Iraq for Australia, he began to research the classic Iraqi songs from his childhood, and was surprised to learn that most of the songs were composed by Jews who had left Baghdad for Israel in the early 1950s. Shokor sets off to meet the Jews who shaped Iraq’s musical history and embarks on a journey to bring together musicians of warring faiths — Jewish, Sunni, and Shiite — who share his nostalgia for these well-known folk tunes.
Followed by a conversation and brief performance by violinist Layth Sidiq.
