Join ADL New England’s Young Leaders for a discussion with Kathrine Switzer, first woman to officially run in the Boston Marathon:
Kathrine Switzer officially changed history in 1967 by running in the Boston Marathon at a time when it was a men’s only event. Her entry, and running, created a worldwide uproar. When spotted, she was attacked mid-stride by the race director as he tried to physically remove her, and take her numbers. Switzer completed the race despite this attempt to stop her, proving to herself, and the world, that women could run a marathon side by side with the men.
Hear Ms. Switzer’s story of #BreakingBarriers in a personal setting, the night before she gives the keynote address to over 1,200 students and teachers at ADL’s 21st annual New England Youth Congress.
