Join Jews of the Americas of Brandeis University and Fuente Latina for an exclusive screening and discussion of “7/1O: Testigos del Terror” (10/7: Witnesses of Terror). This film is the first documentary to chronicle the Hamas massacre as told by Israel’s Spanish-speaking Latin American community, the largest immigrant group attacked on Oct. 7, 2023. Fuente Latina teamed up with the Immigrant Archive Project and interviewed dozens of survivors soon after the massacre to ensure their testimonies were preserved. The docuseries highlights Latin American migration to Israel and the role of Latin American immigrants in building the Israeli kibbutz movement, and adds an important dimension to understanding the diversity in Israeli society. The docuseries is in Spanish with English subtitles.
The film screening will be followed by a conversation with JOTA director Dalia Wassner, Ph.D., Fuente Latina outreach director Jessica Ghitis, and CEO of Jewish Family Service of Metrowest (JFS) Lino Covarrubias. The panelists will discuss the historical and ongoing contributions of Latin American Jews to Israel and the current opportunities for collaboration between the Latin, Jewish, and Latin-Jewish communities in the United States.
