Know someone who’d love our Kabbalat Shabbat experience as much as you do? Been wanting to check us out, but not sure about showing up on your own?
Bring a friend and share the love! Nothing beats a warm room full of people raising up some Shabbos vibes on a cold winter night.
As always, this will be a musical, soulful, chant-based journey into the heart of Shabbat. As we follow the arc of the Friday-night prayer service—over the course of about 90 minutes—we’ll create an oasis in time where we can release the week and refresh our spirits.
After the prayer service, we’ll gather for a community vegetarian potluck dinner (see details below), followed by after-meal blessings and singing. Families are welcome—there is a separate play area for kids, and parents are also welcome to have their kids join in the prayer space.
As a co-created community, we rely on a crew of supporters to make our services happen—from setup to cleanup, food prep to after-meal prayer and song leading. Whether you’re a regular at our services or a newbie who wants to fast-track getting to know people, go to our sign-up sheet and select a support role.
Please bring a veggie dish to share with six to eight people, with a label describing the dish’s ingredients. The space is nut-free. If you bring cheese, please make sure it uses vegetarian rennet. We’ll provide challah and kiddush wine/juice. Feel free to bring additional beverages.
There will be a table for hechshered kosher food, so if you’re bringing prepared food, please consider buying kosher products. If you are able, please also bring any necessary serving utensils.
The Kesher Center is right on the Cambridge/Somerville line, less than a 15-minute walk from Porter Square and about 25 minutes from Harvard Square. There’s also plenty of parking. (The best approach is through Bleachery Court.) Go to the back right corner of the parking lot and look for the “Kesher” sign above the white door.
The Kesher Center is ADA accessible, with elevator and an accessible bathroom. There are also all-gender bathrooms in the space.
