Join NFTY NE for three days of fun, connection, learning and more! Participants will spend the institute with teens from around the region, doing fun activities, having meaningful conversations and building an amazing NFTY NE community. All programs, activities and services are written by teens, for teens!

Sunday, Dec. 27:

Program 1: Optional Kesher Brunch (11:30 a.m.)

Is December Institute 2020 your first NFTY experience? If so, we invite you to join us for a Kesher brunch before the event begins to introduce you to NFTY and some friendly faces from the region. We hope to see you there!

Program 2: Welcome and Mixers (12 p.m.)

Join us as we officially kick off NFTY NE’s Virtual December Institute! We will have breakout rooms for teen members to connect and bond by asking some questions and playing some games.

Program 3: Conflict Resolution (2:30 p.m.)

Join this program to learn about different conflict resolution styles and even figure out your own. We will be talking about how to engage in conflict effectively and why proper communication is so important.

Program 4: Community Building (4:30 p.m.)

Join us for our fourth call of virtual December Institute for a community-building activity. We will split into small grade-based groups to watch and create nostalgic videos.

Program 5: Jewish Calendar (8 p.m.)

Ever wonder how Jewish months, the Zodiac and Ma’ariv are related? Come find out!

Program 6: Brotherhood and Sisterhood (10 p.m.)

NFTY NE strives to create a safe and sacred community in all that we do. A highlight of a NFTY NE Institute is coming together in smaller groups to strengthen our community and selves. All are welcome to join us in our Sisterhood (Nashim) and Brotherhood (Check-In/Check-Out) communities. Participants can self-select the community they want to join as each community will meet within breakout rooms for seniors to pass down wisdom to the younger members of our NFTY community.

Monday, Dec. 28:

Program 7: Shabbat Yoga (11 a.m.)

Join us for a fun and relaxing Shabbat service during which we will flow through yoga. We will go through a series of poses throughout the service. This will be a calming and a good start to the day. Participants are encouraged to be in a spot where they are the most comfortable/zen and be in clothing that is easy to stretch in and will be the most comfortable.

Program 8: Who is a Jew? (1 p.m.)

Who is a Jew? Who do we include as part of our community? Why have we reached these conclusions? Throughout the program, teens will learn about the historical, modern day and their own perspectives about the answers to these questions.

Program 9: Music (3 p.m.)

Join us for a fun experience learning about and dancing to music from the past decades.

Program 10: Time and Space (4 p.m.)

Join us in a choose-your-own-adventure-style program through time and space with your friends! You’ll get to see places all over the Earth and solar system and experience events throughout the ages.

Program 11: Havdalah (7 p.m.)

Join us for a service focused on community, togetherness and self-care. Including a mix of classic NFTY-favorite secular songs and traditional prayer, this service will give participants a chance to check in with old friends, meet new people and take a moment to reflect on how they themselves are doing.

Program 12: Talent Show (8:30 p.m.)

Join us in showing off your talents or sitting back to enjoy acts from members of the NFTY NE community, including some classic NFTY NE institute traditions! You won’t want to miss this fun evening.

Program 13: Brotherhood and Sisterhood (10 p.m.)

Tuesday, Dec. 29:

Program 14: T’filah (Services) (11 a.m.)

Join us for a community-based service that highlights both traditional and non-traditional prayer. We will be utilizing the breakout room feature to build relationships with one another and ourselves!

Program 15: Asefah (Regional Board Meeting) (1 p.m.)

Join us for our regional board meeting. During this time, regional board members will share their position updates and discuss all things business related to the region.

Program 16: Eisner Friendship Circle (3:30 p.m.)

Join us on another choose-your-own-adventure with a nifty twist! You will make choices as if you were at an in-person NFTY event at URJ Eisner Camp (where December Institute is usually held). Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
