Join Kerem Shalom member Marty Plotkin as we celebrate Erev Shabbat! On this Friday evening, we enter not only Shabbat but also the month of Elul, beginning the arc of the High Holy Days. Now, you may recall that Moses destroyed the original tablets of the Ten Commandments in a fit of rage when, descending Mount Sinai, he found his people worshipping the Golden Calf. Tradition tells us that it was on the first day of Elul that he went back up the mountain, carrying the blank tablets he had hewn as a replacement. In his most intimate encounter with the Divine, he begged Hashem to forgive the people for their transgression. He was on the mountain for 40 days, at the end of which Hashem forgave them. And look: 40 days after 1 Elul is 10 Tishrei—Yom Kippur!
Please join us in community as we welcome Shabbat with song, prayer and warm companionship, and turn our hearts toward the possibility of true forgiveness.
The service will be held in-person only.
