We are living through a moment of profound moral urgency in the United States — one in which the treatment of our neighbors signals the erosion of legal and ethical norms. As American Jews, our history and values demand that we reflect and respond.

Join us for a virtual day of learning with Hartman scholars to examine and respond to this crisis with the power of our ideas. The Shalom Hartman Institute will convene Hartman scholars and guest speakers for four public sessions examining the Jewish moral vocabulary of dignity, obligation, and responsibility:

  • 1 p.m. Shalom Hartman Institute President Yehuda Kurtzer in conversation with Seyla Benhabib, Eugene Meyer Professor Emeritus of Political Science and Philosophy Emerita at Yale University, as part of a live recording of the “Identity/Crisis” podcast
  • 2 p.m. Dahlia Lithwick, Senior Editor at Slate
  • 3 p.m. Aaron Dorfman, Founder and Executive Director of A More Perfect Union, in conversation with Claire Sufrin, Hartman Director of Research and Publication
  • 4 p.m. James Loeffler, Senior Fellow of Hartman’s Kogod Research Center and Felix Posen Professor in Modern Jewish History and Director of the Leonard and Helen R. Stulman Jewish Studies Program at Johns Hopkins University
