Join us for the first session in our online Jewish Journeys through Latin America series for a Jewish exploration of Colombia.

While Bogota’s established Jewish communities largely trace their origins to immigrants who arrived during the 20th century, stories of Jewish and Converso presence in Colombia reach much further back. Today, growing numbers of Colombians are exploring family traditions, customs, and histories that may connect them to this forgotten Jewish past. We will explore contemporary Jewish life in Bogota, the communities and traditions that shaped it, and the fascinating intersection between Colombia’s established Jewish population and people now searching for Jewish roots lost through generations of assimilation.

About our speaker:

Vivianne Tesone is a third-generation Colombian Jew, educator, journalist, and active leader in Colombia’s Jewish community. She serves as deputy director of the Colombian Jewish Federation, the umbrella organization representing the country’s Jewish communities, and is an editor of the online Jewish publication Hashavua.

This series is made possible by a grant from the Congregation Ahabat Shalom Religious Fund and other generous donors.
