Introduction to Judaism

This 25-week course is designed for individuals in interfaith relationships wishing to explore Judaism, as well as those who are considering conversion to Judaism. Participants will study Hebrew, Jewish history, the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, Israel, ethics, holidays, life-cycle events, contemporary Jewish movements, kashrut, traditions, ceremonies, prayer and Jewish text.

Tuition is free for individuals who live in or who are affiliated with a Jewish organization in the Foundation’s service area. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own books. For participants outside the Foundation service area, tuition is $425.

Hebrew will be taught at each session beginning on Nov.19 from 7-7:30 p.m. Beginning Nov. 19, classes will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.

Class location will rotate among the following North Shore synagogues (refer to the schedule below for specific dates and locations):

  • Congregation Shirat Hayam, 55 Atlantic Ave., Swampscott – 11/12/19, 1/28/20, 2/4/20, 3/17/20
  • Temple B’nai Abraham, 200 Lothrop St., Beverly – 12/17/19, 2/11/20, 2/25/20, 3/3/20, 5/12/20, 6/2/20
  • Temple Emanu-El, 393 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead – 3/26/20, 4/2/20, 5/21/20, 5/26/20
  • Temple Ner Tamid, 368 Lowell St., Peabody – 1/7/20, 1/14/20, 1/21/20, 4/21/20, 4/28/20, 5/5/20
  • Temple Sinai, 1 Community Road, Marblehead – 11/5/19, 11/19/19, 11/26/19, 12/3/19, 12/10/19
