Pre-Mitzvah Day service speaker & collection for displaced and distressed Syrians.

The Tikkun Olam team is pleased to announce the speaker for our Pre-Mitzvah Day Shabbat. At Friday evening services, Mr. Jeff Thielman, the President of the International Institute of New England, will speak to us about the IINE’s work in helping refugees resettle in New England.

The mission of the International Institute of New England is to invest in the future of our cities and towns by preparing refugees and immigrants for participation in the social, economic and political richness of American life through active citizenship.

Along with our various Mitzvah Day activities, we will be collecting on behalf of NuDay Syria. NuDay Syria is a non-profit organization focused on bringing humanitarian aid inside Syria and helping displaced Syrians in the bordering areas around Syria. The Tikkun Olam team will deliver the collected items to NuDay, which sorts and ships via containers to Syria.

You can bring the following items on Shabbat and on Mitzvah Day:

  • Rice, beans, powdered milk or formula, tuna, protein bars, flour, sugar, cooking oil
  • New or like-new clothes, bedding, shoes
  • Soccer balls, stuffed animals, coloring books, non-battery operated toys
  • Diapers, feminine hygiene products, soap bars, powdered detergent, toothbrushes, vitamins
  • Hospital equipment, walkers, wheelchairs, medical supplies
