“Lilith” is a solo performance by choreographer/performer Wendy Jehlen. It is a study of the story of the first woman, created as Adam’s equal, who rebelled against Adam and fled Eden. The performance begins with creation, in a space dark as a womb. We follow Lilith through her early history, her conflict with Adam, her escape. We view facets of her from the many perspectives that history, art and religion have viewed her: as the serpent who offers the apple to Eve, as a winged creature, a temptress, as an aggrieved mother a thousand times over. The performance culminates with Lilith in her fully realized form, a combination of all of these facets—a dragon-like being, magical and unconstrained.

This performance is originally inspired by the sculpture by Kiki Smith and created in parallel and collaboration with a series of poems by Keith Tornheim called “Lilith, Dancer on the Wind.” “Lilith” premiered in 2013 and has since been performed in Cambridge, New York City, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Botswana and India.

Proof of vaccination and masking required. Limited seating.
