The Miriam Fund warmly invites you to attend our Closing Event: Preparing Girls for the 21st Century.

Featuring Professor Marina Umaschi Bers
Eliot Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development and Computer Science
Tufts University

Join us for a very special evening as we wrap up a successful year of grantmaking. We’ll hear from Professor Marina Umaschi Bers, who will demonstrate her new KIBO robotic kit and speak about how The Miriam Fund (formerly known as The Boston Jewish Community Women’s Fund) can foster girls’ and young women’s interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.

We will also announce the creation of the Gitta and Saul Kurlat Fund for STEM Education. Established under the auspices of The Miriam Fund, this fund will honor the memory of Gitta Kurlat (z”l), an early supporter of The Miriam Fund, and support STEM education for girls.

Light dinner will be served. Dietary laws will be observed.

Dr. Bers has received numerous awards including the 2005 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. She is the director of the DevTech research group at Tufts University and co-developer of the ScratchJr programming language, a free app for engaging very young children in programming and storytelling. She also created the KIBO robotic kit to teach coding and engineering. She is a co-founder of KinderLab Robotics, a start-up with the mission of taking KIBO into the world to enable 4 to 7 year old children to learn critical technical, problem-solving and collaborative skills.

Free valet parking available.

Event fees reflect the cost of goods and services provided and are not tax deductible.

Please consider making an additional gift to The Miriam Fund in memory of Gitta Kurlat to support STEM education for girls.
