Congregation B’nai Torah of Sudbury invites the community to join Rabbi Dr. Lisa Eiduson and cantorial student intern Rachel Rubinstein online for Shabbat Shira—the Sabbath of song, because this is the week that we read or chant the section of the Torah known as “Miriam’s Song at the Sea,” as it is found in the “Book of Exodus.”

During this Friday evening’s Shabbat service, we will also remember Jewish singer-songwriter Debbie Friedman who died 12 years ago during the week of Shabbat Shira, and, who, in many ways, is our modern musical Miriam. We will discuss her contributions to the world of Jewish music in America and beyond as she was one of the first artists to blend traditional Jewish texts and contemporary folk-infused melodies. Over the past 50 years, Debbie Friedman’s musical influence on our synagogue and synagogues throughout the world has changed the sound of Jewish prayer and liturgical music.

Join us via Zoom! Contact for details.
