University of Haifa Research Update: Can Jellyfish Help Us Design Better Drugs?

August 13, 2014 Lexington

Dr. Daniel Sher of the University of Haifa Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences will present a research update on the chemistry of survival in coral reefs. The corals and their relatives, including jellyfish, are the “master chemists”, using sophisticated “nano-syringe”- like stinging cells to inject a potent venom cocktail into their prey. Researchers at the University of Haifa are studying these “master chemists” to unravel their mysteries in the hope of designing better drug combinations and drug delivery systems to benefit people everywhere.
