The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt

Queen Esther, of Purim fame, is a heroine of the Jewish people. But did you know she is beloved far beyond the Jewish community and even served as a muse in the 17th-century Dutch Republic? A new exhibition at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, “The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt,” explores Esther’s story and is on view from August through December 2026. The Vilna is partnering with the Gardner to explore the many facets of Esther’s story through a season of shared programming.
