Miriam – The First Woman Prophet” is a new musical by Debbie Friedman, Alan D. Kaplan and Tom Anastasi. The story covers the events in Miriam’s life from rescuing her brother Moses to delivering the Hebrew people at the doorstep of the Holy Land. Through words, dance and song, we witness Miriam saving the Jewish people through her ability to find water in the desert, her struggles with her family and personal life and her reckoning and finally finding understanding and peace with God.

There are 26 songs by Debbie Friedman (two having never been recorded) and a cast of 18 telling Miriam’s role ensuring the journey from Egypt to the Holy Land was successful.

The musical was conceived by Debbie and Alan in 2002 during a NFTY summer trip to Israel and has finally arrived on the stage with the assistance of Tom Anastasi and Debbie’s sister Cheryl Friedman.

Musical arrangement by Or Oren, musical direction by Judy Hayward, choreography by Margaret Windler and costumes by Mary Selvoski. Produced by Alan D. Kaplan and Steven B. Short, and directed by Alan D. Kaplan.
