Manish grew up in the crowded chaos of Mumbai, where his father toiled long hours, hoping to send his son to business school. But Manish has his own dreams and wows street audiences with his hip-hop dancing. Then he meets Yehuda, a 70-year-old Israeli dance master who recently arrived in Mumbai. And a new dream takes shape: ballet. Manish struggles to prove to his family, Yehuda, and himself, that he can beat the odds and makes it as a world-class professional dancer. In the process, Manish and Yehuda change each other’s lives.

The Boston premiere of “Call Me Dancer” is followed by a conversation moderated by BJF artistic director Lisa Gossels with director/producer Leslie Shampaine in-person, and film subjects Manish Chauhan and Yehuda Maor on Zoom.
