In this workshop, Rabbi Lauren Tuchman presents two texts from the Babylonian Talmud that she believes are illustrative of the Jewish tradition’s interest in making people with disabilities agents of their own stories. These two tales illuminate the ways in which people with disabilities, throughout interpersonal interactions, advocate for better conditions for themselves and all others like them.

The workshop focuses on bringing the richness of the Jewish textual tradition to bear on how we might think about disability issues from an authentically Jewish place, not merely because accessibility and inclusion are the nice things to do, but instead because they are mandates our tradition gives us.
