Artist Debra Band’s stunning illuminated paintings are on exhibit in the Goldman Gallery on the first floor at Hebrew College. The images, which capture the blessings, psalms, and prayer from the beloved mystical traditions of Kabbalat Shabbat, are selections from Band’s new book, “Kabbalat Shabbat: The Grand Unification.”

Band is fascinated with the themes of the mystical image of Woman as Wisdom, and what she describes as “the surprising correspondence of the Kabbalistic view of Creation with the modern scientific understanding of the origin of the universe,” which are reflected in the images and the beautiful translations by Raymond Scheindlin. The book includes a foreword by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and an introduction by Rabbi Arthur Green.
